Portable
car DVD players first showed up around 10-15 years ago. The first DVD
players were kind of primitive. They skipped a lot and were hard to
hold still enough in a car to prevent skipping.
Of course, skipping is one of the least of the problems. Often instead
of just skipping, the DVD player would completely stop working. This,
in turn, would require the DVD player to be completely turned off and
back on again and then would require you to have to go through the DVD
and find the place where the disc left off. This was compounded if you
were driving and only had small kids in the back who could not make
the changes themselves.
Now, these DVD players have anti-skip protection as well as they are
often able available as a standard or added feature on newer vehicles.
Even if the DVD player is not already factory installed when you buy
a new vehicle, there are many shops that specialize in car audio and
in recent years they have added video to their repertoire. Having these
DVD players included into your vehicle is not as hard or as expensive
as you might think.
Even though it is not recommended, some people have even chosen to
have these players installed in their dashboards. This is unwise because
it can be a huge distraction to the driver and endangers a driver’s
life and the lives of passengers and other drivers.
Some of the newer models have continued to expand the comfort level
for those in vehicles. Anyone who has kids can attest to the fact that
kids often will not agree on a number of things. If there is a difference
in the age or gender of your children, you may quickly see how hard
it is to get them to agree on a DVD to watch while in the vehicle.
The newest models of portable car DVD players allow separate screens
to show separate movies. This means one child can be watching Sponge
Bob on one screen while the other child watches Lord of the Rings on
the other. In order to keep the sounds from the DVDs mixed up, each
child has a different set of headphones.
Portable car DVD players are exceptionally great items to have while
on vacation, but they can come in handy just about any time. The players
that are detachable can also be easily plugged into the TV in your home
and used there as well.
