Blue
ray DVD players are considered the first, true high-definition DVD players.
The technology brand name is actually “Blu-ray.” They use
blue laser technology, which has a shorter wavelength than red laser
technology used to make the DVD format.
There are, however, two competing high-definition formats: Blue ray
DVD players (Blu-ray DVD players) and HD-DVD players. The following
companies make DVD players that support the Blu-ray technology: Apple,
Denon, Hitachi, LG, Panasonic, Pioneer, Phillips, Samsung (HD-DVD also),
Sharp, Sony, and Thomson (HD-DVD also).
Blue ray DVD players (Blu-ray) require compatible Blu-ray discs to
play in them. The following studios issue Blu-ray discs of their productions
for purchase: Lion’s Gate, MGM, Miramax, 20th Century Fox, Walt
Disney Studios, and Warner (HD-DVD also).
